i seek new landescapes

skittering forth north
and east (at least)
back in time
just in time
seeing, seeking
peeking neath vales green & sward-riven
that clothe cloven bones of otherness;

for when everything known is false
renown besmirched by lies and smirks
and winks and blinks and shirks
the worthawhile must hold ungiven
in the not-yet-seen, the unmet
freeing, freaking
the muddyfuddled apes;

to know a thing damninishes it
in this day when we all dream like kings
imagine like po'ets
hunger like skeletal wretches
pirouetting in a desperate dance of distress
our swath of deconstruction widens with every victory
minds emptying as bellies fill;

but knowing is eating (as sowing is fleeting)
and programmed to hunt relentlessly, to fish
we track the shrinking school, driven
for ignorance has no meat and mystery
however toothsome is no mess to sate our ape-etite,
so unable to capture yesterday's wonders,
digested yesterday, we fast and feed on less offing;

truth erodes its shape
assuming many twisted and unlikely forms
along the path which fools embrace as beauty;
given enough time, enough rhyme
all that remains is a curious dust hovering on the horizon
sparking in the last rays of the setting sun
heralding the onset of utter darkness:

what you see
depends upon where you understand.
