The Problem With Today's Poetry
The problem with today’s poetry
is that too much of it starts
from the same assumptions.
I am tired of hearing the same voice
tell the same story,
make the same complaint
(however valid).
I want something that flips me upside down
and makes me something I never was before.
If I’m going to read your poem,
I want it to transform me
into someone who contains your poem.
The problem is, too much of it ends
and is left behind when I move on.
