Must Be Free
People must be free to not know
what to do with their freedom.
We must compel them if necessary
to allow themselves to remain free.
We must compel them to allow others to remain free.
Freedom can seem like danger and restriction
can feel like warmth at the hearth.
Nevertheless.
People must be free to choose to submit to tyranny,
but they must never be permitted to act on that choice.
People must be free to choose to destroy everything,
but then they must be effectively thwarted.
People must be free to believe
that people must be free.
People must be free to believe
that "freedom" is a coherent concept.
Free them!  Free the people!
Though they rise against you in anger and confusion,
don’t let them stop you!
They must be free to stop you,
but you must not be stopped.
They must be free to redefine freedom as slavery,
and we must be free to avoid their perversion
of language and reason.
All must be free to get everything wrong,
but then everything must be put right.
Death frees us from freedom.
But until then.
Until then.
