I Was, and Therefore Am No More
I wear no longer that which once I wore.
And who I was, I should rather be
than anyone I'll ever see;
And who I am, I cannot bear
for I am here but she is there.
I thought I knew I had love when I did
yet now I know in love my life was lived;
I traded life for love—it went—
and now both love and life are spent.
Who am I now without my dear?
who can I be?—no one, I fear;
Who was I when I had her?
and who were we then, when it mattered?
No longer can I love what I adored:
I was, and therefore am no more.
