Cease, Gravity
How DOES Life pass us by
Anyway?
So high above
My head the ground
As if on ancient wings windgrabbing
Candles burning so bright
As to obscure the flight
In fire & dripping wax
Ever passing.
Where does it go &
Why doesn't it stop
Or pause
Or even hesitate
Just a little?
Ah Icarus! Mighty Apollo!
Juxtapose the flux
Of the nightshadow of a saguaro
Wearing a sombrero of stars
Like a Tijuana tourist
With the tourist himself
Swathed in Banana Republic expedition cloth
From sombrero to sandal
As he searches the market
Searches the market for that
Which is never found in markets
Searches for the flame
To light the wax of his body
The wax of his head
For the courage to ignite
Burnburn & like the cactus
Rise toward sunlight even
While dripping even
In the grave shadow of the earth.
