poems
dreams
books
is am are was were be being been
do not fret
do not fret
everything is ending
but it ain't done yet
the key to imagining a future of duration
is to admit that it will transcend your imagination
(ah, Horatio!)
new encounters, new satisfactions,
and yes, new wounds
those who can't, who think they own it,
will welcome extinction
to escape from an interminable parade of todays
a change in quantity (even increase)
doesn't serve when we crave a change in kind:
incremental stability
being free is being nothing
and so we enshackle ourselves for experience
with successive efforts and capitulations
even an existential materialist
should concede that material
can be formed into wonders
by a creative intelligence
your veneer, is it supple or brittle?
do not fret
place your bet
everything is ending
but it ain't done yet
