Writing An Early 21st Century Poem

reveal imaginary anecdotes about yourself
that make you look better or worse than you are
(stress your inhibiting reluctance to boast)
adapt adopted form but so loosely it's a mess twist
the line without finesse you can't go wrong
complaining about the pain
repetition indicates seriousness
use clever words but no. challenging. ones.
anthropomorphize a few plucky household items
but throw out sentiment with the sentimentality water
banish not only cliché but the truth that made it so
pack it with droll allusive humor
originality is suspect: steal everyone
's gimmicks and quirks without continuity
be dark, but not tediously dark
be bright, but not studiously bright
your sound should pester but never resonate
use the voice of verse, the tone of prose
fill it with imagery that never holds still
include a line or two of random internet
repetition indicates seriousness
remember that text in a mirror
is unintelligible
