What Chance

The world takes as if our personal repository
could never be emptied.

Now we take in the same manner
from the world.

Better by far a libertine
than a bully, a bigot, a liar, a coward.

If everything is possible,
then why should I be so constrained,

and thus so unfulfilled,
and thus so unhappy?

And if so little is possible,
what chance was there, ever?

How long we fight
to save those parts of us already lost!
