Unfathomable

How could I not write a poem
that included the Antikythera mechanism?
I could as soon take to the ocean alone.
I could as soon dive overboard
and sink into the darkening deep
seeking both depth and a bottom.
I could as soon corrode, jam,
break loose, and come apart.
I could as soon wait, bones on sand,
ink on water, for someone to find me
and deduce what I had been.
Make room, sea floor, ancient library,
for me and for mine among your
uncountable undiscovered mysteries.
