Together, Waiting

Today collapsed
when we denied yesterday
and gave up tomorrow.
Now we squat in an apse
of ash and shattered stone,
a mob waiting together
to rediscover what it is
to be alone
in sorrow.

Say what I say,
do what I do,
be as I am.
It is not whether
but when;
no longer then
but now.
