This Place, Here

Though this is not where we ever expected to be,
ever imagined coming to, and so different
and so much less than all the places we anticipated,
here we are, here we are, arrived, and while we are here
let it be as though this had ever been our dream,
the very place we longed for, wanted above all others
that we ever saw or heard tell of or passed through
but could not hold onto, in which we failed to root.
Let us drink what is here to drink;
let us eat what is here to eat;
let us not look over our shoulder or the horizon
or think if only, we should have, why didn't we.
Here we are, and it must be better to be here fully
than to not be anywhere else or here either.
