The Way I Was

I am made of memories,
and memories can't be trusted.
I used to believe in my impulses,
but they cured me of that.
I spent my whole nights dreaming
back when I could sleep.
I treated every new thing
like a new thing to want.
The world was clear as water,
but people were more like milk.
I had fewer parts,
but they fit together so much better.
I remember some of the steps
but not how they combined into dance.
