The Teaching

I can rarely tell the difference,
when you're telling me something ephemerally interesting
and when you're trying to teach me something
on which I will be tested later.

Also, I usually fail to distinguish
a test from a distraction.
Perhaps it doesn't matter?

Fiction teaches an expectation of solution.

Life teaches us to be better losers—
where's the evolutionary advantage in that?

Hell, I don't want to teach anyone anything.
I want to provoke them into teaching themselves something.

The world is either robbed of or spared
what I want to do but can't.
