The Stories

Why do we want to believe
that the stories we like best
are truest?

I would prefer every poem
to have a different author,
to emerge unstained by oeuvre.

Sound or silence,
we can devise no grammar
for the indivisible.

Who collects payment
when I am auctioned off
thought by trait?

Nothing happened
as I had imagined
it would not.

Evolutionary intelligence
is the only intelligence:
evolution is intelligence.

My favorite things are
like myself
irrelevant but essential.
