The Shortage

What is lost when life is lost?
Is there a shortage of life?
Life itself decided on death
and then more life.  New life.
Different life.  What is lost?
Continuity may be an illusion
seen from just one angle.
But we, too, are life,
and we don't just love life,
we love lives.  Each life.
The impulse at the heart of life
is the impulse at the heart of love.
The world doesn't love,
but it evolved lovers:  us.
