The Recitation of the Vocabulary
I'm telling you to tell me why you won't tell me.
Too late, I never walked beneath elm or chestnut.
I am much more concerned with improper nouns.
All my poetry is a defense of elitism and exoticism.
As I mean them, not as you mean them.
Having opinions about everything and everyone is exhausting.
And possibly morally degrading.
There is something suspicious about a well-functioning unit
of greater than a certain size.
How easily my range can be reduced, I observed.
And with how little consequence.
Unique properties are what we claim to value.
But understandable properties are what we really like.
We demand that our lies be respected,
our errors anointed as excellence.
What was the first great intellectual discovery of your life?
The first great emotional discovery?
We lack an historical victimology.
When we can't forgive others for giving us what we ask for.
The fact that you are dissatisfied with your judgments
is independent of the pleasure I take in mine.
What is hardest to believe is everything always getting worse.
Why do the words stand between us?
Why am I so determined to get past this impenetrable barrier?
“When you become wealthy, you become visible," the archaeologist said.
Everything must be said about everything.
Let us join together in the saying.
As we celebrate that which we have been told is not to be celebrated,
or mourn that which we have been told not to mourn.
Because once you've ruined it, you no longer have to worry about ruining it.
