The Prince of Sleep

I want to sleep better than I've slept
for ten thousand nights.
I thought I was the Prince of Sleep,
but then I slipped.
I wake and wake and wake
and all's the same.
I want to sleep and wake into newness
as I used to do.
I want to wake—
but first I want to sleep.
To fade out, then in,
and emerge changed.
Ten thousand times.
Or at least once more.
