The Persistence of Fiction

It is easier to open to the entire natural world
than to the society of a single person.

How often, it seems, I am estrangered
by those near me.

Those who perform love as satire.

How flexible our design,
that we can care or not care,
aid or not aid,
do or refrain from doing!

Should the body pity or envy the mind
that it is never naked?

Without intent, there are no mistakes.

The best wine is just polluted water.

The metaphorical is always preferable
to the metaphysical.

What happens,
our reaction to what happens,
our relation to what happens,
our stories about what happens.

The bravura of text
unscrupulously
textured into scripture.

Exploiting locally nonrandom phenomena
in a random environment.

How do you respond to the 20th Century
during which it was settled
that everything should die?
