The People v. The World
No one sat up on the bench
so I stepped up and said I would.
Now's your chance, I nodded and glowered,
show me your bad and what you call good.
They did.
My gavel damp with tears,
I hit the table once, twice, again.
Villains! Scoundrels! Vandals! Thieves!
Murderers!
I condemned them all without reprieve.
And when the last was hauled away
I stepped down and walked outside
and climbed the gallows and thought
what a wonderful thing justice was.
