The Library of Futility

I read thousands of books,
but for every hundred traps I learned to avoid
I stumbled into another, and those were enough.

There are as many traps as steps.

Failure is the logical outcome of trying—
not always, but often enough to serve
as a general rule.

Not trying is worse, they insist,
and I believe them.

Again, again, again I tried.

I fell in love with the trying,
and continued to love it
even when it faded into an anachronism.

Read all the books.  It won't help.
