The Juice In Fruit

Keep your poems of guilt, of shame.
Most guilt and shame accrue (or should)
to those who would never read a poem.

Don't believe me? That's fine.
Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto,
and all that.

But one thing being like another
does not mean it is not unlike it,
does not imply they are the same.

Rain and the juice in fruit and sweat
and river and brackish tarn are all water
but won't all drown in equal numbers.

Write your poems sodden with self-denial,
I don't need them, won't read them.

All poems are written and copyrighted by Michael C. Rush.
