The Hard Thing 2
If you want the rare reward,
choose to do the hard thing:
it's no guarantee,
but it improves your odds.
Which of us says So what more often?
Never have I dreamed this dream
that you are dreaming—
how shall we assign culpability?
I always wanted to know everyone
without any of them knowing each other.
Beauty cannot emerge from others
unless we let them proceed
according to their own inclinations.
If we force them to follow ours,
there can only result a forced mimicry.
To dream, you must sleep,
or at least close your eyes
to the uninspired world.
I will keep postulating arrangements
until I find one unfamiliar to you.
THEN you will say how original,
how creative, how unique,
how this-doesn't-absolutely-bore-me-
to-fucking-death.
You still expect me
to ask myself
Have I said enough?
