The Ebook of Lamentation
evolution is a concatenation of errors,
compromises
the necessity
of a few things
that can't be justified
some for the caves
some for the trees
consequences of consciousness
a recent rearrangement
imitating the sounds of the world
in abbreviated homage
I want a smooth and shiny
rapt in admiration
pulsing in place
eddying with inspirational drift
laughing
with the poems of raindrops
landing
I can't hold quiet enough
to keep the rock
from chastising me with echo
you say “a long life,”
I laugh
patina
becomes part of the pattern
