The Cost 2
We pay to discover
our limits
and the limits of
what can be discovered.
Each pays in his own currency,
but the cost is always a wound.
Each of us, having hoped for more,
learned to settle for less.
And learned the stony mantra:
less is better than none.
Why should we be fined
before we have earned,
leaving us, from then on,
in a perpetual state of deficit?
