Sometimes I Am Trying To Get Away From

Sometimes I am trying to get away from
all the things other poets choose to write about.
Their poetry is a Trojan horse filled with horseshit.
Sometimes I marvel at how pleased they are
with themselves and how they congratulate one another.
Someone should give them a hook and a worm and a river.
Everything has a place in poetry,
as poetry has a place in everything,
but that doesn't compel me to pay attention to it.
Better a scold than a gossip.
A small thing had better be large.
An amuse-bouche had better taste good.
Sometimes I reflect upon how there are more poems
for things than there are things.
