Poem to a Future Reader
I don't want to immortalize in word
anything I've ever seen or heard.
Not everything that was for me
will also always for you be—
and if you cannot love it,
what use have you of it?
Things are removed
from the world—and improved,
changed things added—
and bad.
Expectation fertilizes
many different sizes
of experience,
and hence
I think you're better served
if my subject is reserved
to something I've not known
in case, by your day, it's grown
obscure.
But I'm pretty sure
what I never knew
is safe to share with you.
