Patriotism
I pledge allegiance to independence.
Try to sell me a flag
and I will give you a flame.
Your anthem is tired and trite
and I've found a hundred thousand
better songs to sing.
Neighbors are fine.
Strangers, too, are cool.
I elect to laugh at tribal posturing.
Mention war and I'll fight you.
How did you get a heart
made of soiled cash?
You may resent my protest,
but let me present my ass.
