On Commitment
We like to see commitment.
It's comforting to intuit from
within our terrible solitude.
But love is a periodic wavelength that only
occasionally coincides with commitment.
Proximity and repetition deserve much
of the credit that passion enjoys.
It is easier to commit to a habit, a concession,
than to live enslaved to a compulsion.
