Of C

If A then B.  Sometimes
If A then sometimes B.  Maybe.
If A then maybe B.
B doesn't really care for A,
doesn't care about A one way or another.
Yet A keeps showing up,
is there, suddenly, unsummoned,
again and again.
What in B, B wonders,
draws A?  What power?
Or what lack, what need?
Why so often B? A thinks,
frustrated, disappointed.
And dreams, endlessly, of C.
