Nursery Rhyme XV

The hunted beast
can hope at best
to draw some blood
before it falls.

For it will fail
and it will fall:
that was set
before it's birth.

But should it bite
or slash with claw?
Or should it howl
in fear and hate?

And will it matter
what it did
when it's been slaughtered
and lies dead?
