Mon Grand Émerveillement

Since you will send me send me far from here,
far from everything I've known
so I may forget what I've not got.
I'm not a bard, but I play one in certain worlds.
What is further than a dream?
What closer?

Magpie poet, packrat,
collector of shiny bits,
looking for poetry of the counterintuitive,
not so much the beloved outlier
as the unalike connected
in delightfully unanticipated ways,

and to find in all things
done so often by so many
for so long something
to sustain, to satisfy
the urge to the now, the new,
the unique, the personal.

And all the tedious little drones
looking to fly straight from A to B
may not take the exotic
however they quiver and frown
as long as one remains
who loves mystery over misery.
