Memory 4

Memory is a poor substitute
for the body, for reason,
for presence, for attention.
But it lasts so much longer,
and, subject to incremental alteration,
it may in time evolve into
something more in line with passion.

Imagine the vintage, decanted from the brain
on death, the distinct blend
of common ingredients
fermented for a lifetime
only to vanish in an instant,
untasted, lost, billions of times over,
process without product, without purpose.
