Look
I look for a land of the open-eyed,
who look at one another
without horror or disappointment,
so that my eyes may open
and I may look and be looked upon.
I find I am too-convincingly camouflaged
as I pass among the savages.
I want a revolutionary smile
and a reactionary laugh
and of course I have neither.
I am not taking on
any new emotional burdens
just at the moment.
