Justification

When you see rain start
you don't know when it will stop,
so how can you justify
not running out under it immediately,
arms outstretched and face uptilted?

We had the misfortune to miss everything
before and everything after, leaving us
little choice but to position our lives
in this almost-wholly-inadequate now.

There is so much wrong
with the idea that there is so much wrong
with so much.

It is too soon for anything.
It is too late for everything.

A pause is the most unnatural thing.
