Jesus

Imagine the hope of Noah's dove
as it scanned the water from above—
for there was no ark and there was no flood
nor any stories or book of God,
only a lost bird looking to land
who'd gone out farther than he'd planned
and needed to alight soon and rest
before his heart burst in his chest.
Maybe he made it and maybe not—
he didn't return as we were taught.
