Invocation
Grave mistake and hopeless blunder
bury hope and swallow wonder;
frightened eyes and frowning smiles
conflate acceptance and denial;
obedient hearts, incurious heads
happily follow where they're led.
Or not so happily but without much fight,
they trade the day to sleep at night.
And every sleep but one is short
by each and every report.
So reap the world's random rewards
and take no prodigal step toward
surrender.
