Indirections

The illusion of adequate detail,
the dream of sufficient understanding,
perpetuated by a conspiracy of nudges and whispers.
What is noticed must be celebrated or mourned,
approved or regretted, welcomed or discouraged,
accepted or rejected.  The merest glimpse invokes
the assessment that sells itself as assistance.
What drips must splash.
That there is more dark than starlight in the night
sky is an artifact of our perception.
We see a fraction of function,
of what there is to be seen.
And so are an infinitessimilitude
of what there is.
