— To the exemplars
when privileging preference
why hold back?
unroyal prints of quail
moving doodles
in the wind-puffed wash
dancing desert willows
comeback weeds
mesquites
and me
one startled jackrabbit
much like the rest
sun shining so hard
into the sand
to blind me to the other suns
the spiders wait
and the spiders watch
even in a reality noted for its clarity
some abstractions are concrete
in some minds
