Illegitimate Sons, Playing With Fireworks
BOMBS bursting
in air
there
arbitrary power
is most easily established
on the ruins of liberty
abused to licentiousness
LIES leveraging
in homes
here
a slender acquaintance with the world
must convince every man
that actions, not words,
are the true criterion of the attachment of friends
these MEN
these men who burn
with arrogant appetites
these government gluttons
who consume the globe
the children of avarice,
the brothers of iniquity,
the fathers of mischief
are not my brothers
these OTHERS
have no claim on Washington as father
as they reject his patriotism
for the prurient paternalism
he rejected
associate yourself with men of good quality
if you esteem your own reputation
for 'tis better to be alone than in
bad company.
nobility is the only flag
forever free to burn inside, inextinguishable
by traitors & hatemongers
& destroyers & cowards
& friends & neighbors
& you & you & YOU
labor to keep alive in your breast that little
spark of celestial fire called conscience
