If I Am To Be Alone

If I am to be alone
then let me be alone,
apart from and unbothered by
the noise and demands of society.
Let no one approach to sell me anything
or demand I give them something.
Make me deaf to all human sounds
and blind to the ugliness that follows people everywhere.
Remove every individual from my dreams
and let me sleep without regret.
The world is enough, the world is enough.
Let me be all the humanity in my life,
humanity enough to let the disappointment fade
and joy return to the hollows of existence.
