How Well He Plays
How well he plays the mnemonica,
they all said.
What a pity we don’t really care for it.
He practiced every afternoon for years—
why couldn’t he have let his days
accrue naturally like other people?
Why does he now feel we owe him some attention
just because he spent so much of his inheritance
on mimicking extinct patterns?
Where is the obligation
to honor another’s obsession?
