How They Praised Us
I have wasted my life, you say.
But who has not wasted his life?
That which shows you more of humanity
shows you your capacity for rejection.
Are you a taker-aparter
or a putter-togetherer?
The purpose of life, surely,
is to provide a venue for dreams.
What we do should be determined by who we are
but too often isn't.
How they praised us for our irrelevancies,
extolled our insufficiencies!
Whatever you want to believe you will believe:
this is the perfidy of belief.
To meditate is to mediate.
Don't ever be your own slave.
It has long been our way
to prosper from the ailing and defunct.
We have splurged on urgency.
Hubris may be strongest in humility.
If I care for others,
is it okay that I care most about myself?
How many poems must I write
before I become unassailable?
