For So Long
For so long my words
have been going directly to voicemail.
No matter the number.
Does it get easier
as you get older
to have fewer opportunities
that you aren’t chosen to choose?
They like it when you demean yourself,
but they love it when you agree to demean yourself.
It is more important
(I suppose)
that I should be on the right side
than that I should be counted among
those on the right side.
To be good is to try to be good,
and to keep trying until you succeed,
and to keep trying after you've succeeded.
Try to be enough, in and of yourself,
that you don't need to weld yourself
to another with love.
Just try it.
