Etude

We should agree in advance
what would constitute a betrayal.
If we conform to chance,
what will become of our love?
Looking back, what will we think of this moment?
we should never think in any moment.
If betrayal is inevitable, on one side or the other,
we should decide how we will abide.
Life is impossible
in spite, or because, of love.
What seemed a blessing proved a horror.
Over and over.
How much of our lives are spent
cultivating resistance?
