Diablitos

Life demands suicide,
but that’s already been taken care of for us
and there’s no rush.

The broken, the bitter,
is the one who has heard "no"
too many times.

It is unnatural not to change.
It is insupportable to want not
to change.

Among the stains of saints,
we take comfort in the common
but worship the unique

and our beloved arrangements
of what can't be counted, measured:
the ubiquitous, the essence.

Animalcules, diablitos
touch the torch to borrow its burn
in definite, defiant artifice.

Forensic poetry,
the inapt syncopation of accentuated irrelevancies,
shiny generics,

the beautiful ideals, extraneous
except to those infatuated with beauty
but unwilling to capitulate into love.

So I contradict the contrarian
and the stubborn notion that what is right is what is approved
to aspire to admiration.

Who yet believes
that sublimity
requires consistency?
