Death 4

Death has been waiting for me
my whole life.

I am glad that it was content to wait,
that it was willing to be patient,
that there was time for this
and that and the other thing.

But always it has been there waiting
and always I have known it.

And the joys were not sweeter for the knowing,
and the pains, not easier to bear.

I have been waiting for death
my whole life.

What am I waiting for?
