Consensus
All life is surely entitled to choose a premature end,
though there may be as little wisdom in abruptness
as in procrastination,
but is it fair to the hand
when the foot walks over that final line?
If the eye blinks when the tooth opens a blue vein,
if the ear must go all silent when the heart ceases drumming,
if thought must be sacrificed to extinguish pain,
then there are always dissenters, always unwilling victims,
is always an extra burden of injustice
beyond that which death carries…
