Cage, Recursive

I ache for new acquaintance,
but I traded that, the possibility of that,
away ages ago.

I can no longer like anyone I know,
so without new encounters, I can't
like anyone.  And I like liking, a lot.

So I must try to meet new parts of myself.
The new may lapse too soon into the familiar,
but first it will light me up,

first it will smile at me, and I,
without thought, will feel like smiling back.
Will smile back, if I don't get in the way of it.

But I am a cage in a cage in a cage
and can only make new things of old words.
