I have made myself available
[for adventure]
[for special assignment]
[to be called upon to help someone in need]
[to do something meaningful].
I am not encumbered as others are,
am free in a way they can't match.
(They may have ways of their own.)
This wasn't easy, dammit!
Don't think it was.
I have made myself an outcast,
exiled from everyone,
and I can live with that, I guess.
It was a good idea at the time.
(There may have been better ones.)
I have made myself.
But if I am going to be called upon,
it had better be soon:
it's afternoon.
