Arise!
Blump is stumped:
the sky denies.
Grounded, he walks
toward his demise.
Old as hunger,
black as lies,
he lifts his wings:
again he tries.
The sun is hot,
the bird is wise,
he gets off the ground,
he's up—he flies!
The earth gets smaller
in his eyes,
as small in his thoughts
as it does in size.
So higher, bird,
arise! arise!
Soon you'll land
in another guise.
